About Melodi

THERAPIST, TEA-DRINKER, DOG MAMA, HIKER, PODCAST-LISTENER, PERFECTLY IMPERFECT HUMAN BEING

Hi, I’m Melodi (she/her), and I’m admittedly a stereotype. I studied psychology in college to try to figure out what the heck was going on with me. I’ve learned a thing or two since then and can honestly say that I live a much more peaceful life since diving into my own healing and prioritizing my well-being. I became a therapist to guide others on that same path. Maryland Virtual Therapy, LLC was founded as a passion project during the pandemic. Now I regularly catch myself thinking, “I have the best job in the whole world”.

I enjoy providing therapy services to young adults, mainly women. I am proficient at treating depression, anxiety, complex/relational trauma, women’s issues, relationship problems, life transitions, and grief. Recently I have developed a special interest in learning about Complex-PTSD.

Professional Experience

I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) who serves adult clients (ages 18+) from across the state of Maryland. I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology at St. Mary's College of Maryland and my master's degree in clinical psychology at Towson University. Additionally, I am a board-approved clinical supervisor. I have a decade of experience working as a therapist and program manager at a community-based mental health clinic. I founded Maryland Virtual Therapy, LLC in early 2021. Since then, I completed Internal Family Systems Level-1 training. This evidence-based modality has added new depth to my holistic approach to healing.

  • “Not every story has a happy ending…

but the discoveries of science, the teachings of the heart, and the revelations of the soul all assure us that no human being is ever beyond redemption. The possibility of renewal exists so long as life exists. How to support that possibility in others and in ourselves is the ultimate question.”

    -Gabor Mate

  • “In confrontation with the truth, solutions will arise…

Trauma involves a lifelong pushing down, a tremendous expenditure of energy of not feeling the pain. As we heal, that energy is liberated for life in the present. So the energy of trauma can be transformed into the energy of life… It takes a lot of energy to keep the pain managed and suppressed.”

    -Gabor Mate

  • “Trauma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you.”

    -Gabor Mate

  • “No matter how much pain or dysfunction you have to deal with in your life, every part of your psyche is doing its best to help you.”

    -Jay Earley

  • "Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it."

    -Jay Earley

  • "At the core of every individual, when all the extra is peeled away, is this essential, loving, creative, wise, courageous state."

    -Susan McConnell

  • "Love is the answer in the inner world, just as it is in the outer world.

Listening to, embracing, and loving parts allows them to heal and transform as much as it does for people. In Buddhist terms, IFS helps people become bodhisattvas of their psyches."

    -Richard Schwartz

  • "Don't assume your inner critic is what you think it is.

It's a part of you trying to protect you somehow and if you think of it that way, it isn't going to have the same level of power over you."

    -Richard Schwartz

  • “If you are uncomfortable —

in deep pain, angry, yearning, confused — you don’t have a problem, you have a life. Being human is not hard because you’re doing it wrong, it’s hard because you’re doing it right.”

    -Glennon Doyle

  • “To be alive is to be in a perpetual state of revolution.

Whether I like it or not, pain is the fuel of revolution. Everything I need to become the woman I’m meant to be next is inside my feelings of now. Life is alchemy, and emotions are the fire that turns me to gold.”

    -Glennon Doyle

  • “I am a human being, meant to be in perpetual becoming.

My goal is not to remain the same but to live in such a way that each day, year, moment, relationship, conversation , and crisis is the material I use to become a truer, more beautiful version of myself.”

    -Glennon Doyle

  • "Awakenings are not mystical experiences that are reserved only for monks, mystics, and poets

They are not only for “spiritual” people. They are for each and every one of us who wants to change—who aches to heal, to thrive, to shine."

    -Nicole LePera

  • "Healing starts with learning how to tap into the needs of our body and reconnecting with our intuitive Self."

    -Nicole LePera

  • "This is what the work is all about:

making space to allow each of us to be seen, heard, and authentically expressed."

    -Nicole LePera

  • “But this revolutionary act of treating ourselves tenderly can begin to undo the aversive messages of a lifetime.”

    -Tara Brach

  • “Each time you meet an old emotional pattern with presence, your awakening to truth can deepen.

There’s less identification with the self in the story and more ability to rest in the awareness that is witnessing what’s happening. You become more able to abide in compassion, to remember and trust your true home. Rather than cycling repetitively through old conditioning, you are actually spiraling toward freedom.”

    -Tara Brach

  • “You have a unique body and mind, with a particular history and conditioning.

No one can offer you a formula for navigating all situations and all states of mind. Only by listening inwardly in a fresh and open way will you discern at any given time what most serves your healing and freedom.”

    -Tara Brach
